Grass Valley, CA — After discovering a Chinese-branded version of Skippy peanut butter in the Grass Valley, CA Grocery Outlet, area Trump supporter, and occasional restaurant racist Terry Adkinson proclaimed to a largely disinterested collection of shoppers that “this is why America is not great anymore.” The popular grocery chain has been stocking peanut butter for over a month. It is manufactured in the United States for “Asian regional target markets” such as San Francisco and Los Angeles.

“At Unilever, we make products for every part of the world,” said spokeswoman Bethany Millbright in a Gish Gallop telephone interview. “Traditionally, re-branding our products occurred only in target countries. However, with our advanced manufacturing and distribution processes, we can finely target regional ethnic markets in more modern times. So on the West coast of the United States, we have a high concentration of Standard Chinese speakers who have developed a love for Skippy. And why wouldn’t they? It’s great.”

Presidential candidate Donald Trump has been criticized for encouraging reactionary anxieties about ethnic groups. On occasion, he’s accused Mexicans of being rapists and, on more than one occasion, stoked somewhat irrational fears that China is going to take over America.

These kinds of messages resonate loudly with Trump supporters, like Grass Valley’s Terry Adkinson, who has a lot to say about the state of America.

“I don’t want to come into my grocery store and see this Chinese crap,” said a ranting Mr. Adkinson after being escorted out of Grocery Outlet. “Look how they’re taking over our culture. It’s like what I heard on the radio the other day: borders-language culture. I mean, that says it all. And that’s what Trump wants to do; make America great again.”

Other Grocery Outlet shoppers didn’t seem to get “what the big deal is.”

“Yeah, it was weird,”  said frequent Grocery Outlet shopper Beth Feingold in the parking lot. “He was going on and on about China this and China that. He kept getting increasingly agitated until he held up this peanut butter jar and yelled, ‘this shit will kill your dogs.’ And something about how Chinese people eat dogs. It was inappropriate. That’s when the manager came and told him to leave, which he did.”

As for Mr. Adkinson, he has no plans on changing his shopping habits.’

“People need to wake up to what’s happening around them,” continued an exasperated Mr. Adkinson furrowing his brow. “I mean, look at all these immigrants flooding our borders, getting free stuff, and taking our jobs. It’s one thing to have the proper places for Chinese talk, like a restaurant. But not in my grocery store. Not in my food.

According to Unilever spokeswoman Ms. Millbright, they are interested in input from all their customers, racist or not.

“We take our customer’s feedback very seriously,” continued Ms. Millbright. “And we are very sorry that Mr. Adkinson had such a bad experience with our re-branded peanut butter. We have reached out to him with some coupons he can use to purchase native-English labeled peanut butter at another local supermarket. We believe there’s a Safeway nearby that he can find the Skippy that fits his lifestyle.”
